The Importance of Recovery

  • By Adrian Huynh

Remember that recovery is just as important as the hard work you put in on the court or in the gym. The reason why recovery is so important is that it allows the body to restore itself physiologically and psychologically so that you can compete again at a competitive level. Here are some recovery ideas that you can try before your next workout:

  • 15 minutes of mild active recovery (Jog or walk)
  • 30-45 second pain-free stretching (can use exercise bands if accessible)
  • Yoga (You can find some good videos on Youtube!)
  • Foam rolling (if you don’t have a foam roller you can also use a tennis or baseball ball)
  • Ice bath for 10-15 min (2 rounds)
  • Drink lots of water (2-3L per day)
  • Consume smart foods that help our body recover such as:
    • Pineapple
    • Cherries
    • Beets
    • Oranges
    • Protein shakes
    • Omega 3 supplements
  • Sleep 8-10 hrs

There isn’t one best way to recover but here are some different interventions that you can try and see which best suit you!
